Happy new year! This week our designer Ruth Seatter has answered a few questions for us. Ruth is our fabulous designer, and joined Social Code earlier last year in our Wellington office.

Outline your journey to Social Code.
In 2013, I headed overseas to explore the world my boyfriend. Our travels were cut short with the devastating news: My Mum had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. We headed straight back to NZ and spent the next 6 – tough but special – months with her until she passed away in April 2014. Such a shocking and heart-breaking experience like that makes you re-look at your priorities. I realised life was short and I wanted to try and live a more appreciative and meaningful life. Around the same time, I was in contact with Social Code about a Design and UX position. It was one of those ‘meant-to-be’ moments where I realised I could have a career that combined both my skills (design & UX) and passions (health, nutrition & wellbeing). One of Social Code’s values is “Work on stuff that matters” and that pretty much sums up what working here means to me.

I’m passionate about good health because…
I want to be the very best I can be with what I have been given and good health helps me achieve this. I want to be well and live a happy, long and full life and I want this for others too.

Please, ask me about…
In my spare time, I love getting outdoors with friends and going hiking, running, swimming, skating, handstands etc. My boyfriend and I also have a dream of designing our own off the grid self-sustaining tiny home.

What’s the wallpaper on your cellphone?
A photo I took on the stunning Routebourn track (one of great walks of NZ) from 2012. It’s so cool that we have some of most beautiful places in the world, right on our doorstep.

What’s your favourite place you have traveled to?
Cinque Terre, Italy. Loved the cute houses stacked on the steep cliffs, warm mediterranean sea to swim in and stunning views from the cliffhanging trails.
